I research and write about predictive analytics in social science. My work tends to lean toward critical sociological theory, and emphasizes the importance of people and processes over products.
My most recent book, Data Science in Higher Education, has sold over 5,000 copies!
My dissertation research focuses on predictive analytics in higher education. Specifically, I seek to discover whether the predictors of student success identified in the early 60s and 70s are still relevant to student success today, whether additional predictors have surfaced, and whether predictive analytics has any purpose inside today’s higher education environment.
